How to write research questions and research objectives?
In this article
I am going to explain you about research questions and research objectives.
Research
questions come next to the problem statement. The main thing that is done by the
research questions is taking out the problem statement. That means identifying
the key issues in the problem statement.
After
identifying key issues, you can formulate three or four research questions
separately. Do not try to create more than four because it will become a very
hard task for you. And you are going to answer these research questions
completely at the data analysis part separately.
Therefore, you
have to create simple and understandable questions. You can use what, why and
how questions to form these research questions. Objectives are also same as the
research questions. The difference is research objectives are beginning with
the term “to”. I will show you an example.
What questions:
What is the national interest and soft power tools used by India and China?
What are the successes, failures and the impact of soft power usage on the maintenance of the status quo in South Asia?
Why questions:
Why India and China use soft power tools on South Asia on behalf of hard power tools?
How questions:
How India and China impact on the status quo in South Asia?
Basically, you can convert these
research questions into research objectives. You have to write research
objectives by beginning with “to”. I will show you an example.
Research questions:
What is the national interest and soft power tools used by India and China?
What are the successes, failures and the impact of soft power usage on the maintenance of the status quo in South Asia?
Research objectives:
To identify the national interest and soft power tools used by India and China.
To determine the successes, failures and the impact of soft power usage on the maintenance of status quo in South Asia.
I think this will be clear enough
for you to understand about how to write research questions and objectives.
Let’s move on to the next article. It is about how to write the methodology in
the research proposal. So, keep in touch with that article too.
